Inkjet printers have been around for quite some time and because of their cheap acquisition costs, they are the most preferred type of printer in the market. They produce great colored output as well as crisp text. However, there is one thing that they can’t keep up with laser printers and that is their speed.

If you’re loaded with a ton of printing tasks, sometimes an inkjet printer just won’t cut it. So why are laser printers faster than inkjet printers? We will start at the beginning. Let’s say there’s a page that needs to be printed. The page is then divided into pixels and each pixel represents binary data, one and zero, representing black and white pixels. By using a laser beam, the ones and zeroes are transferred to a photosensitive device. As the paper rolls along with the photosensitive device, usually called a drum, the other side of the paper is where the toner is located. The charged areas then attract the toner and all the charged areas will have ink. At this stage, the toner is not yet fused to the paper so it goes to a heating process which fuses the toner to the paper.
As you can see, there is no process that involves liquid ink which is why you can touch your prints immediately. There is also no print head that weaves back and forth across a page just to finish the line. Before, the circumference of the drum is equal to the maximum paper length it can process. This means that the rotation of the drum produces one page.
Now that you understand why laser printers are faster than inkjet printers, you might consider purchasing laser printers for your next printers. They’re fast, accurate, and dry. That is not to say that inkjet printers are worthless. They are actually good printers if you have the patience to wait for the pages to finish and at the same time dry up.
